If your goal is college, look for a college that is both a good acedemic fit and a good social/emotional fit. Size and location can directly impact your success- big schools in distant locations overwhelm some ADHD ADD students; other ADHD ADD students find the new enviroment and diversity stimulating. Choose a school with ADHD ADD support services and programming, such as academic assistance and study skills support.

Make sure that they are super organized when they move in – both backpack and dorm room. See if you can arrange to have an organized friend as a roommate. Also work out a system to help them remember important things such as medication and homework.

The college catalog should contain information about tutoring and other learning assistance programs available to its students. If it doesn’t, contact the admissions office and ask.
